One of the most popular mattress options for bargain shoppers looking for the best “bang” for their buck is the Discount Memory Foam segment. For under $750 (for the most part), shoppers can find a mattress that rivals the comfort of some of the bigger players, namely TempurPedic and to a lesser degree, Bragada. While […]
More Than Mattress Reviews
At qMattresses.com, our unique and proprietary ratings system is based on feedback from more than 1,250 individual product owners and users. The keyword being “unique” because we place
a greater emphasis on the best products and worst products when evaluating them. More specifically, using a 5-Star mattress ratings system within a micro framework allows us to properly classify and highlight the best and worst mattress products on an ongoing basis without risking obsolescence in the quality of those ratings. Additionally, assigning 5 Stars to only the best mattresses and 1 Star to the worst mattresses allows the mean to properly represent what most mattresses truly are: average. The following image provides a visual representation on how our Star Ratings are assigned:
In order to ensure that ratings have validity and relevance, we separate our ratings into different categories. At this point, we rate Mid-Range Mattresses and Value Mattresses independently. This allows mattress products to “compete” with similar products, otherwise higher-priced mattresses would essentially earn all of the 5 Star ratings while cheaper mattresses would earn 1 Star, with little regard for the comparable quality and features that each product truly offers.
On a more macro level, extreme satisfaction and dissatisfaction take the spotlight when arriving at our qScore ranking hierarchy for mattress brands. Be sure to visit our Mattress Ratings post for more information on ratings by brand, which also covers the most common Memory Foam Problems and the most common coil mattress complains.
In a Rush? Our Mattress Reviews offers Summary Sections (read more by clicking here) that promise to highlight 3 positive features of a product, 2 negative features, the actual Star Rating and the Peer Group. As well, we publish something that no other resource offers: Target Mattress Pricing which helps you figure out whether that so-called Sale is really a Sale at all!
For the most part, features and characteristics for products are available from the manufacturer themselves, either on their website, through product brochures on by telephone. As well, product information can be obtained through the retailer, but we should warn you that not all retail staff are trained the same and therefore there can be wide gaps in the reliability and integrity of that information – always best to speak with the manufacturer. At any rate, actual product information is readily available without having to dig too deep. But if you don’t want to deal with the manufacturer, then the Top Mattress Stores covered here as well as our in-house Mattress Expert, Peter Cancelli, can provide the most up-to-date and reliable information you need about products and sleep health.
Qualitative data for our satisfaction ratings (qScore) comes from multiple sources and the research was completed by a third-party to ensure absolute impartiality on our part. Most data was collected on the internet on sites that were not directly related to the manufacturers included in our surveys. In addition, to at the very least eliminate some element of bias, we limited information to no more than 10% from any given source. So we could not sell out and get all data from big retailers like Sears.com.
